Amelia Earhart broke many flight records; 1st woman to fly Atlantic solo & longest non-stop distance flown & 1st person to fly the Atlantic twice. Earhart followed this achievement with a flight from Hawaii to California, 10 pilots before her lost their lives attempting this crossing, but
Earhart completed the journey January 11, 1935. And with less than 7,000 left to go in completing a trek around the world they never reached their destination and it is believed the plane went down about 100 miles off the coast of Howland Island, never to be seen or heard again. No remains of any kind have ever been found.
